A Must Have Resource For Vasular Research

This book is a necessary resource for anyone in the field of vascular pathology, medical device pathology, or vascular research in general. Whether you are a study sponsor, pathologist, study director, scientist, research associate/assistant or laboratory manager/tech, you should familiarize yourself with this book. It allows the reader to make a better-informed decision regarding the type of research model appropriate to the type of research being performed. Outstanding book

Practical and mostly concise. Each chapter has a section called "troubleshooting the difficult case" which gives excellent advice, tips and tricks for dealing with common problems. For newly practicing EP physicians, I recommend re-reading the relevant chapter the night before each ablation, and especially suggest skimming over the "troubleshooting" section immediately before each case. I found this book indispensable in my first few months of EP practice.

`It is an honour to be asked to write a foreword for this new book by Michael McMillan. I have been excited about this book ever since I read early drafts of its first two chapters some time ago at the birth of the project. At different times thereafter I have read other parts and my consistent impression has been that this is an author who has both a sophisticated academic understanding of the material and a great skill in communicating that widely. Those two qualities do not often go together!

The book is about change. After a first chapter in which the author introduces us to the person-centred concept of the person, chapter two is devoted to the change process within the client, including a very accessible description of Rogers' process model. Chapter three goes on to explore why and how change occurs in the human being, while chapter four introduces the most up-to-date person-centred theory in relation to the nature of the self concept and its changing process. Chapters five and six explore why change occurs in therapy and the conditions that facilitate that change, while chapter seven looks beyond the core conditions to focus on the particular quality of presence, begging the question as to whether this is a transpersonal/transcendental quality or an intense experiencing of the core conditions themselves.

This is an intensely modern book particularly in its postmodern emphasis. Rogers is sometimes characterised as coming from modernist times but he can also be seen as one of the early post modernists in his emphasis on process more than outcome and relationship more than personal striving. The modern nature of the book is also emphasised by a superb analysis of the relationship between focussing and person-centred therapy in Chapter five, linking also with Polanyi's notion of indwelling in this and other chapters. In suggesting that in both focussing and person-centred therapy the therapist is inviting the client to 'indwell' himself or herself, the author provides a framework for considering many modern perceptions of the approach including notions such as 'presence' and ' relational depth'. Also, the link with focussing is modern in the sense that the present World Association for the approach covers a fairly broad family including traditional person-centred therapists, experiential therapists, focussing-oriented therapists and process-guiding therapists. Important in this development is the kind of dialogue encouraged by the present book' - Dave Mearns, Strathclyde University

The belief that change occurs during the therapeutic process is central to all counselling and psychotherapy. The Person-Centred Approach to Therapeutic Change examines how change can be facilitated by the counsellor offering empathy, unconditional positive regard and congruence.

The Person-Centred Approach to Therapeutic Change outlines the main theoretical cornerstones of the person-centred approach and then, applying these, describes why change occurs as a result of a person-centred therapeutic encounter. The author explores the counselling relationship as an environment in which clients can open themselves up to experiences they have previously found difficult to acknowledge and to move forward.

Integral to the person-centred approach is Carl Rogers' radical view that change should be seen as an ongoing process rather than an alteration from one fixed state to another. In Rogers' view psychological health is best achieved by the person who is able to remain in a state of continual change. Such a person is open to all experiences and is therefore able to assimilate and adapt to new experiences, whether 'good' or 'bad'.

By focusing explicitly on how change is theorized and facilitated in counselling, this book goes to the heart of person-centred theory and practice, making it essential reading for trainees and practitioners alike.

The illustrations alone make this a worthwhile buy, whether you're a gastroenterologist or just extremely interested in colonoscopies. Ever since Katie Couric's live colonoscopy on TODAY, I've been intrigued by the procedure, considering it something of an art form as well as an intrusive medical procedure. But Abraham Dachman and his team of writers make a compelling argument for the use of Virtual Colonoscopy in lieu of long tubes, nano-cameras, and liquid barium. It's a brave new world.

The interesting thing about this book is that it is read by everyone in the field of cardiac anesthesia. When discussing a subject, many people refer to what is written in this book, so you really need it! The book is easy to use because of the clear language and the modest amount of information on a subject.

I think this book is wonderful. It is probably the best source for information on anesthesia management of congenital heart diseases, perioperative management of ischemia and ventricular failure.It is a 1999 edition, so there are a few points which need to be updated in view of recent advances in both drugs and surgical procedures, but I would still recommend this book to all the prospective cardiac anesthesiologists.

The Polymer Science primer.

This book is at home either in the hands of a graduate or a bachelors' student. Since I belong to the former, reading the book was like taking foundation lessons of sorts in the very often complicated topic of Polymer Chemistry, and getting lifted from the stage of monomers joining to form polymers, to the high tech process of the application of polymers in textile, food and rubber industries, etc. It also talks extensively about natural and artificial polymers, basic and modern methods of polymerization, depolymerization, properties of polymers, economic importance of polymers, etc. You will hardly find a book, which enumerates the products of addition and condensation polymerization like Polymer Science, and Technology does. The lucidity of this text brings to the fore the author's primary skill of teaching. Polymer Science and Technology is a must-have for the student or industry practitioner wanting to make references and learn without having to be an "A" student in Organic Chemistry.

This is an excellent review of the important brain diagnoses. Great job with getting all important info in one small package. This is certainly one of the best general review books ever written for neuro. all radiology, neuro and neurosurgery departments should have a copy of this book around. and at a great price! much less than giant hardback books, that are harder to find relevent information quickly in!

This is a handy little pocket book of the most commonly encountered diagnoses in neurorads. Picture quality is good, author is very well known, an authority in the field, the notes in the book are concise.

A true must have

This is an excellent book that includes 100 diagnoses in brain imaging. The text is perfectly organized for quick reference and really allows one to rapidly find answers to common questions about the diasease entity ie- key facts, CT/MRI/PET/DWI imaging features, pathology, ddx, clinical features. PERFECT! A very valuable book for interns, residents and fellows who at times find themselves in quick need of a short imaging synopsis of a disease process ie- at the viewbox or on the wards.

I think it would be safe to say that one would be unlikely to get a case at the radiology Boards (both north and south of the border) that is not in this book. I think it would be nice to have around for a quick review the night before your oral exam. However, this is NOT a substitute for reading through a more traditional brain imaging text (ie- Mosby Handbook Series) during one's residency.

Basic Science text tough to read

I use this book as a reference and as a learning guide and find it useful for review of material with which I'm familiar. However, this book presents unfamiliar topics in a confusing, poorly organized fashion. As a basic science text, I hoped to find a logical, instructive text that facilitated learning new material. Instead I found a text which glosses over key concepts in order to present the latest research. In addition, many figures are inadequately captioned and explained.

I would recommend this text only to those who wish to have a reference for material with which they are already familiar, and not to those learning the material for the first time.

Abysmal journey

This was a very disappointing foray. I am glad that this text was a gift and I didn't spend my own $$$ to purchase it. The first edition of this book is well known to have problems. Many of the problems of first edition texts are ironed out by the time the second edition is published. Not so here! The text is rife with factual errors. It is unfortunate, as this book is considered a "standard" text for the field. Also, too many chapters clearly kowtow to industry.

This book is a poor review for recertification as it gives incorrect information. Be careful before purchase! I challenge the AAOS to publish a 3rd edition which is meticulously edited.

Solid text, but no MyPsychKit access

So far (about 4-5 chapters in), this text has proved to be a useful introduction into the field of behavioral neuroscience. I had a limited grasp of the field aside from some undergraduate biology, but the author does a good job of systematically walking the reader through the structure of a neural cell, then the central nervous system, sensory systems, and so on. The book is thorough and well-organized, and having the definitions embedded in the text makes studying convenient. The author's tone/approach is plain-spoken and accessible, so reading through the chapters isn't necessarily a chore (lot of information here, though!).

My major qualm is that Amazon advertises this as part of the MyPsychKit series (which allows for online access, study tools, etc.). Unfortunately, my text (and evidently others in my class who also bought this new edition) did not come with the needed access code. Supposedly, the online access requires a separate purchase, though I haven't had a chance to verify this. Aside from the false advertising, I'd recommend the text as a good, thorough introduction to the subject of behavioral neuroscience.

Well balanced and easy to read

This book had, in my opinion, just the right amount of information: the chapters were not too long or overloaded with unnecessary details, but each topic was covered fairly in- depth, and throughout confusing or particularly interesting concepts were highlighted with extra information. This book is a really nice foundation for an introductory behavioral neuroscience course; I still refer to it from time to time. The writing style is easy to read and the case files associated with each chapter add interest. This was one of my favorite textbooks.

MyPsychKit access often isn't available from the publisher right after a new edition is released; sometimes you have to wait for it to become available. Amazon has updated the book's description page to reflect that now, however, so I am giving the book five stars.

Amazing Neuroscience Textbook

This book was assigned for a Neuroscience class I took my sophomore year in college. I still keep it close by.

It is one of the most extraordinary textbooks I've ever read. It's dense as hell -- so good luck getting through it unless you're totally committed to the subject matter. However, if you can manage to dive in, you'll learn a lot from a trustworthy source.

I reference it in almost everything I write.
